My Little Sister Just Added Me on Facebook.....

Dearest Annia:

As it is only a matter of time before you examine my Facebook page thoroughly and perhaps decide to begin reading this blog, the first thing I must advise you of is that NONE of what I discuss here should EVER reach the ears of OUT FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

As you will turn 15 in a matter of months I am sure that you are aware of many of the potentially bad words that I might use in my writing (one of the reasons you were forbidden from reading my books until you reached 16). Know that my work here and everywhere else is the product of many adult experiences, frustrations and initiations that you have yet to forego. I also know that unlike you're younger sister you are good at keeping your mouth shut so I'm not too worried.

This is a big moment for me as you may become one of the hundreds of folks who check me out here on the regular. This will also make you privy to my life in a way that you weren't when you had to rely upon my visits and phone calls. You are growing up quickly and as such will increasingly find yourself seeking guidance from older folks about things that may not always be cool to discuss at the house. This blog should help you feel a bit more comfortable about trusting me with such concerns and issues.

Now as the rest of my world chuckles over this entry as it spotlights a side of me that I rarely make public, I want you to understand that I choose this place to explore my life because I, not unlike you, am still figuring it out as I go along. And as such I feel the need to share my words with other people who may be going through the same things or are looking for some insight into worlds other than their own. Seeing you pop up as a friend request has both made my year and given me a heart attack. But welcome to my world Lil' Sis. I'm so glad to have you here ;)
Tomorrow I will talk about being one of the last of the Villagers. I love you, darlin'

Your Big Brother,

Kenji

IS THIS THING ON?!! (Sorry, I'm having problems commenting. Forgive me if the comment shows up like 12 times.)

Anyway...

I am a little sister. I have two older brothers. One in his mid-40s. The other in his late 30s. My brothers and I have never been "close close." When stuff goes down, we're always in each other's corners but sharing the intricacies of our lives is just not something we do. While extremely terrifying to be sure, I find it incredibly charming, sweet, loving, beautiful, courageous that you've opened the door for your sister to get know more of sides you. I only wish my brothers and I had the courage to do the same. Thanks for sharing this.

How lovely. I'm the oldest and my sis and I exchange stories about our lives via blogs as well.

Good luck to you both.
