Viral is the Way to Go

I would have to say that is there were a group of musicians whose careers I would liken mine to it would have to The Roots. This is no surprise for most folks who know me as it's common knowledge that I'm a huge fan. But in recent years, where critical acclaims is no long enough to keep a body of work in circulation, the group has found itself having to continually push their creative and marketing envelopes to keep themselves in the mainstream spotlight. For Rising Down, their current LP, the group enlisted a series of directors to do cheap viral clips and videos intended to circulate throughout the net and promote the album without the big budget extravagance that major labels were known for.

As I intend to the same with my books, the move for Nightshift, Uptown Boys and all future Armory releases will be a series of clips shot through cyberspace weeks before book releases, as well as clips from live performances, candid conversations, roundtables, and hell maybe even me cooking and talking shit, all in the name of free push-button promotion that will lead back to my site and to the hubs where releases will be for sale. I've seen the future and it just might work. Out.
